Fanshawe's Broadcasting Radio program provided me with a well-rounded education in digital media design, video production, marketing/promotions and new media culture.
The skills and techniques I learned are applicable to all careers and crucial in the broadcasting industry. In my second year, I specialized in four areas.
Production
I learned how to follow the script, and get announcers to voice their lines effectively and sounding natural. I am able to be creative within the confines of the script and the client's wants and tastes. I also learned how to edit long-form audio for on-air and podcasts and put them to air and online through iMediatouch Production, SoCast digital and Soundcloud.
Announcing
I learned how to effectively and clearly voice commercials, liners and promos. The importance of show-prep and how to clearly and concisely convey a compelling story to listeners. I also learned how to utilize digital platforms to engage an audience online through social media.
Talk
I learned how to research subjects thoroughly and convey them to the audience in an understandable way. My interview preparation and research were thorough, my questions were thought out and led to long and interesting conversations for listeners. I also learned how to edit long interviews into segments that fit time constraints without compromising the topic and removing important details.
Copywriting
By focusing on copywriting, I have developed the ability to craft compelling messages that resonate with audiences. Whether it's for radio scripts, social media, advertising copy or other types of content, I know how to communicate effectively and write persuasive and compelling copy while adhering to deadlines and word limits.
